I guess since I'm not big on
horror movies this one didn't do it for me. At least this time Angelica
didn't fall head over heals for someone. She was actually hypnotized. Hypnosis
sure seemed to be the big gimmick this last season though. I'm also probably much harder on this one since it
has no advantage of being a
childhood memory. Yes, similar to Jon's situation, my NBC affiliate did not show Spider-Man and his Amazing
Friends after the first season. The second season I caught via rotary antenna
pulling in a station that was about 120 miles away. Alas when season 3 rolled
around, we had cable so I missed a lot of these the first time around. Anyway not much
to tell...I don't even know if this guy was actually Dracula or what. The
resolution wasn't very clear. Oh well I guess you have to have some mediocre
shows for the excellent ones to stand out.
This one is missing something...and it's called
"charm". I was pretty excited to find out that the
Spider-Friends would be going up against Dracula & Co., but in execution,
this episode wasn't much fun. The absurdity that
Dracula would try to mingle at a college dance to find a wife is quite a load to
swallow. Though I know little about the character, I have a feeling he
would take a more direct approach. I don't think the episode is bad...just
mediocre, like Mark said.
This was absolutely my
favourite episode as a child. I loved the ESU spring dance, I loved the Dracula
plot line, I loved the scary gothic castle, I loved the whole story. As an adult
I do grudgingly admit that it has numerous flaws. Mark and Jon are right, why
would Dracula look for a bride at a college in New York; was he even Dracula!?!
Strange that a show which boasts so many infamous super villains should suddenly
decide to make an episode about monsters; even so it makes a good Halloween
episode. My eight year old self would have given it an enthusiastic four stars,
and call it nostalgia but even after all these observations I just can't bring
myself to give it any less than three!
